P-8 Poseidon (USA)

The P-8 Poseidon is a new US Navy long-range aircraft for anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. The P-8 was developed on the basics of the Boeing 737-800ERX (next-generation). On June 14 2004, Boeing was awarded by the US Navy with a contract for the delivery of the P-8 Poseidon as the successor of the current P-3 Orion fleet.
The fuselages of the new build P-8's are being build by the American company Spirit AeroSystems.

In 2009, India decided to purchase 8 P-8 maritime aircraft for the Indian Navy (2.1 billion dollars). The first P-8 will be delivered in 2013, while the other 7 aircraft in 2015. India is the first export customer for the P-8.
